Book: The Other Woman
Author: Daniel Silvia Publisher: Harper Collins Stars: **** Daniel Silva brings the reader on a much quieter adventure in the 18th installment of the Gabriel Allon series in his book The Other Woman. While Silvia makes mention of the goings on in his past novels you can treat The Other Woman as a standalone novel. Novel 18 bounces around from Andalusia, London, Israel, Washington and bits of Russia (but not too much because I am getting tired of the Russia backdrop). All of your favorite characters from books past make some sort of an appearance in this novel even if some of those appearances are brief. Silvia allows the reader a quick hello. I think Gabriel Allon is one of my favorite characters in fiction because Silvia writes about what is going on in the world. I love how Silvia ties in the current events of today so I feel like I am learning something while I read about my favorite character. Allon is a true renaissance man. He speaks several languages and can paint like the greats and does so in several of his novels (not this one). I gave this novel 4 stars because it was a bit repetitive and dragged a bit in the beginning of the novel. If you are a fan of Gabriel Allon you will enjoy this book but you may be left longing for a little more action. I feel like this book is a set up for book #19. Gabriel needs a new advisory and this new villain needed to be introduced to us. This is a spy versus spy novel with not a lot of action. The spy's seem to be matching more wits than brawn. That being said I really enjoy Gabriel and will continue to pick up any book he is in.
